Grandma - a poem

When I enter her house I'm smothered in her warm hugs
and I'm drenched in loving kisses.
Grandma cooks for me
I eat in satisfaction
while sipping on iced tea.
We spend the night.

I wake up the next morning,
Walk down the hallway into the kitchen,
She gives me a lucky peck on the cheek and wishes
me to have the best day.
We make pancakes.

Pouring the batter and it spreading,
The popping bubbles assuring me of completion,
A perfect batch Grandma serves to the boys.
Then she greases the pan for me to repeat.
Her hand over my shoulder
guiding my spins with the spatula.
We sit down ourselves to the aromatic meal,
butter, then dip in blackberry jam and hot maple syrup.

Grandma serves sweet hot tea,
a classic,
In our PJ's, sipping, watching recorded
television shows,
Throwing out our opinions,
Enjoying each other's company,
while it lasts,
before we go home, back to school.

I Love Grandma.

Superman

Lance saved his money to buy a book on how to draw comic heroes. His Superman is excellent.

doodles

It's interesting to see what people doodle when they're in a meeting. They tend to draw the same types of things every time they doodle. Patterns, flowers, etc...

Mine tend to be about 3 things: 1. aircraft/spacecraft, 2. architecture, and 3. patterns.

Sometimes I deviate; as is the case with these doodles. You've got some fantasy sci-fi junk up at the top. On the left you have a weird alien whale creature. On the right, a brave Native American warrior. It feels weird to type so much about a simple doodle, so I'll end it here.

patio in watercolor

Half of this painting came from a shot I took at Magic Mountain (believe it or not). The other part(s) were from my backyard growing up. My mom had this enormous barrel flower pot that I always liked.

mountain lion

This one took me hours and hours. My daughter - a toddler at the time - even scribbled on it at one point, but I was able to fix it. I love Prisma pencils, but I'll never do another one this large with this medium (11x17"). I drew the face first, because that's the hardest part. If you mess up on that and have to start over, then you haven't wasted time on the rest.

sketches of big cats

When I was first married, we lived in a tiny apartment w/no tv. I was home one Saturday and started sketching these lions from a book I checked out at a library. The tiger was from last night - nearly 13yrs later.
